RUSH NO MORE !

On Wednesday, February 17th, Rush Limbaugh, who I consider to be one of the most hateful conservative talk show host ever and all around awful human being passed away at age 70.  He previously announced to listeners last year that he had stage four lung cancer.  Are we worse off because of his passing?  Is his death a loss for Americans? -- I personally think NOT.  In fact I would argue, the world is a slightly better place.

The Rush Limbaugh Show became an on-air sensation after going national in 1988, and has since had a major influence in shaping conservative ideals.  However, the man and his show has always broadcast from a position steeped in racism, sexism, nationalism, and all the "isms" you can think of.  Bottom line -- it was steeped in HATE.  As part of an article for the Sacramento Union in 1988, Limbaugh wrote, "Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women access to the mainstream of society."  As a young broadcaster in the 1970s, he told an African American  caller --"take that bone out of your nose and call me back."

On The Rush Limbaugh Show in 2004, he said, "I think it's time to get rid of this whole National Basketball Association. Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association, and stop calling them teams. Call 'em gangs."  In John K. Wilson's book, The Most Dangerous Man in America: Rush Limbaugh's Assault on Reason, the host was quoted as saying this homophobic statement: "When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it's an invitation."   He began airing “Barack, the Magic Negro,” a racist parody song about then-Sen. Barack Obama’s popularity with many white voters, in 2007.  He called Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” after she publicly advocated for universal contraception coverage, NPR reported in 2012.

In 2006, he was criminally investigated and arrested for alleged "doctor shopping" to obtain multiple prescriptions in Florida, a charge dropped after a plea agreement and his promise to continue addiction treatment.  He openly confirmed his addiction to opioids as it became public knowledge. Yet, Donald Trump bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Limbaugh, calling him a fighter.   This is the nation's highest civilian honor -- REALLY %$#%#(&&$%@#@--What the HELL !!, -- Talk about "birds of a feather."

So, when I heard that Rush Limbaugh died, -- I said "good riddance."  While his fans may deem his death "earth's loss and heaven's gain" -- APATHY and INDIFFERENCE guides my compass.  Rush Limbaugh made his career lying to his audience, stoking misogyny, fueling racism and promoting HATE.  His is not a loss that I will mourn.
